For many men, back hair is a concern and similar to how women feel about having hair on their legs-most of us just don't want it there.
Unfortunately, men can’t easily address back hair themselves, and waxing can be a painful process. If you’ve never been waxed before, think about the discomfort of pulling off a band-aid with hair attached, this will give you an idea of the sensation. This is also why it's best left to a skilled and experienced, trained operator who will prep the sensitive skin, treating it carefully while having the correct products to be able to remove tough and course hair. Waxing a back or bottom covered in thick hair can be intense for both the client and therapist. This is the reason why we specifically started this clinic, to provide this specialised service for the men of Perth over a decade ago.
It's essential to have a well trained technician perform these intimate treatments. The skin on the penis and scrotum is particularly thin and delicate, requiring precision and expertise to avoid injuries like tears, burns, and excessive discomfort. We believe these areas should only be treated by a skilled and experienced, mature professional with a clinical approach and a nurse-like mentality.
Our approach prioritises your comfort ensuring you leave looking fresh and feeling confident. Whether it's your brows, ears, or nose, we’ve got you covered with skilled and precise waxing techniques designed for men.
Due to the time commitment involved, we no longer accept clients for arm or leg waxing. These areas can be effectively treated by a regular cosmetologist or beautician. We also no longer provide waxing services for the chest & stomach, as we don't class this as an essential area and don't have the capacity to provide all services.
Only Tricia and one other therapist in our clinic is trained in our specialised male waxing techniques, ensuring the highest standards of care and skin safety.
P.S. Be cautious about letting untrained individuals apply wax filled applicators up your nostrils—this can cause chronic nosebleeds if the tiny blood vessels are damaged by incorrect technique. And remember, those nose hairs serve a purpose! Similarly, we believe its best to avoid jaw, neck and scalp waxing on men, these are ill-advised practices that professionals don't attempt. After 30 years of waxing men, I can confidently say it's not something I would ever recommend. I think a blog post on this is in order!
Check out the "Read More" tab below for all the details on our Ears, Nostrils & Brow Waxing.
Men’s eyebrows typically don’t need reshaping or thinning. Most men prefer their brows to retain their natural shape but simply want them to look a bit better. The main goal is to tidy up the eyebrows, particularly in the middle to address monobrow concerns, without removing too much between the brows on a man, generally having wider faces than females. Symmetry is important here.
We understand men’s preferences, and we’re specifically trained in handling men’s eyebrows. So, whether your brows are looking unkempt or you’re just in need of a tidy-up, we get it, and we’ll make sure your eyebrows look natural and well-maintained.
For those who do request a more defined or feminine-shaped eyebrow, we can accommodate those preferences, but that is only upon request. The focus for most men, however, is maintaining a clean, masculine look without dramatic changes.
Ear hair can be bothersome, but it’s also often forgotten. While waxing is an effective way to remove ear hair, it’s important to consider the best methods for removal. Shaving this area will grow the hair back two days later like a stubbly beard on top of the ear. Waxing last a lot longer but we won't wax sunburnt ears. Men with white hairs, we offer permanent removal using electrolysis. SHR/Laser is a game changer offering permanent hair reduction if your hairs are darker, getting to them before they turn white of grey is our best advice for this method.
Nose hair waxing is another area that requires careful technique, especially because of the sensitive blood vessels inside the nose. It's essential to avoid using sticks or cotton swabs inside the nostrils, as this can cause unnecessary trauma to the delicate tissues.
We believe in taking a preventative approach, ensuring that no damage is done during waxing. With professional, safe methods, we help keep nose hair under control without risking injury.
We have the above more permanent treatments available for nostrils also.
To keep unwanted hair at bay—whether it’s from your brows, ears, or nose—a regular waxing routine is key. We recommend maintaining monthly treatments to ensure you always look your best without overgrowth between sessions.
Our approach prioritises your comfort ensuring you leave looking fresh and feeling confident. Whether it's your brows, ears, or nose, we’ve got you covered with skilled and precise waxing techniques designed for men.
We offer clinical/professional waxing specifically for the sensitive areas of the penis and scrotum. This service includes the rectal area but not bottom cheeks.
Most men keep hair above the penis which may be trimmed or some may remove all of the hair. There is no change of service for if this hair is removed or not.
We offer a clinical/professional waxing service specifically for the sensitive areas of the penis, scrotum, and rectal area. The procedure is performed by Tricia herself, the first and original Male Waxing Specialist of Perth. With over three decades of experience, Tricia brings expertise and precision to an area that requires maturity, experience, skill and care.
In 2002, Tricia was ahead of her time, appearing on live radio 92.9FM to discuss the concept of what the station referred to it as, the “back, sack, and crack” wax. At that time, the idea of intimate male waxing was relatively new, and Tricia emphasised the need for mature and experienced practitioners to handle such sensitive treatments. "This is not a service for just any beauty therapist, beautician or cosmetologist(hair-dresser/barber/nail technician/make-up artist) who hasn't had professional training."
Due to the fact that male waxing is not taught in our Australian Beauty Colleges, we would like to point out that not even female brazilian waxes are any longer on the training curriculum. This could be due to the experience or confidence of the trainers available. It is not a mandatory requirement. It is however, a service that requires specialised, hands-on training, and a lot of it to ensure that the fine skin on the penis and scrotum, is treated without the risk of tearing, burning, bleeds or other injuries. The skins integrity must be watched closely as it can become thin, over dry from certain body wash gels or lose moisture due to, laundry soaps, hard water environments or age.
The thought is always worse than the event with this treatment, your first will be the worst but with your trust you will see this treatment become much easier with your second and subsequent treatments.
Due to the professional nature of the procedure, the level of skill, care, knowledge and years of experience, this service is priced accordingly. When you book with Tricia, being not only a Beauty Therapist but a certified Dermal Practitioner, you are receiving the highest standard of care, ensuring your safety and confidence throughout the process.
Our back waxing includes trimming, blending and a natural fade-out where shoulders meet chest hair, top arms meets t-shirt line hair or where the back meets the bottom hair.
Waxing can be an excruciating painful experience when performed by an untrained individual. Unfortunately, finding experienced professionals in this field is a persistent challenge in Perth. Yet, for men seeking back waxing, the need for a skilled specialist is non-negotiable.
Men’s skin is uniquely different from women’s, being 20–25% thicker, retaining more heat, and producing more sweat and oil due to active sebaceous glands, especially on the back and chest. This makes men more prone to breakouts and acne in these areas. To replace unwanted hair with painful inflammation and breakouts is hardly an acceptable trade-off. A skilled therapist will educate you to prevent this from occurring.
Without proper training, waxing can cause severe discomfort and damage to the skin, including tearing, irritation, redness and inflammation. The reality is, cosmetologists, such as hairdressers, barbers, nail technicians, makeup artists, or general beauticians are not equipped with the necessary knowledge or skills to offer male waxing effectively.
Male waxing has never been taught in our Australian beauty colleges. Despite this gap in training, many therapists anxiously, are expected to perform these services without specialised training or experience. Disrespectful to the therapist as well as the client.
Men’s waxing requires distinct techniques tailored to the unique characteristics of men's skin and body shapes. Over past decades, I have dedicated myself to bridging this gap, training countless beauty therapists into this specialised field. I am proud to have been the sole provider of male waxing training in Western Australia, striving to ensure that every treatment prioritises a man's comfort and safety while addressing attention to detail.
Key aspects of professional male waxing include:
Men absolutely deserve to have these services performed by trained experts who understand the intricacies of male skin and the unique challenges involved. There are no shortcuts when it comes to their care. With proper training and experience, waxing can become a comfortable and effective solution rather than a painful ordeal.
By only offering you skilled professionals, we not only elevate the standard of care but also ensure that men leave feeling more confident and satisfied with their treatment.
When it comes to hair removal, the method you choose can make a big difference in how your skin feels as hair grows back. Here's how waxing compares to shaving and hair removal creams... Shaving: Shaving cuts the hair off at the skin’s surface, leaving a blunt edge. As the hair grows back, it feels coarse and prickly, which can be uncomfortable. Hair Removal Creams: These strong alkaline based creams dissolve hair at the skin’s surface and may slightly penetrate beneath the top layer of skin, offering an extra day of hair-free smoothness. However, as the hair grows back, it may still feel rough and prickly due to a blunt edge. Waxing: Waxing removes hair completely from the follicle, allowing it to grow back with a naturally tapered edge. This means no prickles, more of a softer, natural-feeling hair growth.
Transitioning from Shaving to Waxing: If you’ve been shaving or clipping, it will take approximately three waxing sessions, spaced one month apart, for all your hair to grow through at the same stage. This ensures a natural, soft finish. Regular waxing at consistent intervals is key to achieving the best results. Consistency Matters: Sticking to a four-week schedule for most areas ensures your skin stays smooth, and hair removal becomes more comfortable over time. It also helps you avoid irregular hair growth patterns, where hair grows at different stages, making it harder to maintain smoothness. Exfoliation for Healthy Skin: To prevent ingrown hairs and keep your skin in optimal condition, we recommend using a chemical exfoliant rather than a physical one like a back scrubber or hard loofah. A chemical exfoliant gently removes dead skin cells and clears impurities, allowing hair to grow through without obstruction. This simple step will help keep your skin smooth and irritation-free.
Waxing Aftercare: Back Waxing Tips-for the Best Results To keep your skin smooth and healthy after a back wax, it’s important to follow these aftercare steps for the first 24 to 36 hours. Proper care minimises the chance of small pimples that may appear when coarse hair is removed from follicles. Here’s what we recommend: Keep It Clean: Only touch freshly waxed skin with clean, freshly washed hands. Avoid unnecessary contact to reduce exposure to bacteria. Avoid Exercise: Skip the gym for at least 36 hours. Perspiration causes bacteria on the skin, leading to irritation or breakouts. Use our After-Wax Wash: Prevention is better than cure, we recommend a specialised after-wax wash, available at our clinic. This step is especially important during summer to keep your skin clear—because there’s no point in swapping hair for pimples! Mind Your Surroundings: Avoid sitting on furniture without a shirt, as bacteria on surfaces like couches or beds can irritate your skin. Avoid Certain Activities: We suggest for 36 hours, keep away from saunas, chlorinated pools, and direct sun exposure to protect your skin. Please note that we cannot wax sunburnt skin. Following these steps will ensure your back waxing results stay smooth and irritation-free. If you have concerns about breakouts, our recommended wash can work wonders. Let us help you maintain clean and confident skin!
You are not alone, some men have driven past for 6-24 months too worried to visit in case that happened. That is what we don't want, for you to be so anxious and worried. Many men have had this same concern and then have had nothing to worry about. With the thought being much worse than the event of having a treatment done, you do not need to worry as it most likely will not happen to you either. This is not a treatment to be done by a regular beauty therapist who has not had specific male genital training, it is a specialised service that requires a mature and well trained professional. Scotums and penises have thin, delicate skin plus we are removing bothersome hair around the anus. This is a clinical treatment, and is performed that way. Our pricing reflects the advanced skills and professionalism of our trained therapists who share a nurse like mindset in a hygienic and clinical environment.
Avoid hot showers and harsh soaps prior to your treatment. Moisturising your skin the morning of your treatment is beneficial. Some men use Numbit from a pharmacy to ease the sting prior to treatment. Trim long hairs the night before when hair is long, if treatments are kept 4-6 weeks apart there is no need for trimming. A shower isn't always convenient but we do provide wet wipes for you to take a moment to freshen up before your treatment begins.
Yes without doubt therefore we strongly advise searching and looking for a Therapist who is experienced in male hair removal to avoid unecessary pain. Any form of Male Waxing is not taught at Beauty Colleges in Australia so as a duty of care, we suggest you ask the question before booking yourself what could be an unforgettable experience of the worst type for you plus the unskilled therapist expected to fluke it and know.
Hairs are always growing and replacing, if you stick to the same intervals between appointments that suits your hair growth pattern, you should be able to get 2-3 weeks of smooth skin after a treatment. For the first 3 waxes make appointments 4 weeks apart to have your hairs growing in the same pattern. From that point we will help you decide if every, 4,5 or 6 weeks will suit your growth the best. Just don't mix intervals up otherwise you will continually have break through hair appearing on the smooth area almost daily.
