There are many benign skin lesions that are extremely common and completely harmless. Unless they pose a significant concern, General Practitioners, who are often overwhelmed with more urgent cases, are unlikely to remove them for you. Dermatologists, being some of the busiest specialists in the medical field, often have long wait times for simple procedures such as lesion removals.
However, once a lesion has been cleared or examined with a dermascope to confirm it's benign, many of these can be safely removed. This can make a noticeable difference in confidence. In fact, we see this most days, men feeling happier after having an annoying bump removed or red veins taken care of.
As certified and licensed Dermal Practitioners, Grace and myself are qualified to remove these types of lesions, providing a convenient and effective solution without the long wait.
Electrodesiccation, electrocoagulation, electrocautery, electrosurgery and plasma arc are the techniques that we use in our clinic. Plasma Arc ionises gases in the air to dehydrate lesions. Electrodesiccation uses direct current to dehydrate and remove skin lesions. Electrocoagulation is primarily for controlling bleeding. Electrocautery applies heat to destroy tissue, focusing on localised treatment, whereas electrosurgery encompasses a broader range of applications, allowing for precise cutting and coagulation in both surgical and cosmetic procedures.
Lesions we remove:
Superficial benign lesions are rarely harmful or risky, yet they can be bothersome. Fortunately, these are simple and straight forward to remove. Please see pictures that show immediately after treatment, which is then followed by dried skin flaking away once completely healed. We recommend yearly skin checks for all clients to monitor for any changes. Some lesions, such as Solar Keratosis, require clearance from a GP before removal.
If a lesion appears suspicious, we will not proceed with removal and will refer you to a Medical Practitioner for further evaluation. Please note that our clinic does not conduct skin cancer checks, however we can guide you on where to go if you're unsure. In our country, skin cancer is a significant concern, with 2 out of 3 people expected to develop it at some point.
Angiomas are little harmless errupted blood vessels seen on the skins surface. They are bright red, small papules that often appear on the torso, arms and legs.
They may present as a single or multiple lesions and are effortlessly simple to remove.
Electrosurgery utilises high frequency electrical currents to perform minor surgical procedures and is highly effective in removing angiomas. This technology allows for precise targeting of skin irregularities with minimal damage to surrounding skin. High-frequency currents generate heat, which is used to coagulate or vaporise the targeted tissue.
Skin tags are common benign skin lesions that can be bothersome on areas like the face, neck, torso or around the genital region. Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN) can affect as much as 35% of darker skins where these lesions often gravitate to the face and neck.
While they pose no medical threat, their appearance can negatively impact an individual's confidence and self esteem. Skin Tag's can be frustrating when it comes to shaving, wearing jewellery or catching on clothing items. Removing them is classed as a lunch-time procedure with no needles, cuts or stitches. Lesions are generally removed in one session where the skin has been pre-numbed prior to using Electrodessication that dehydrates and destroys targeted tissue through a high-frequency electric current. Many darker skins up to 35% of them may have a similar problem with what is known as Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN) on the face and neck, we have removed hundreds, they are very easily removed with no scarring to the skin.
Most raised lesions are flattened or removed immediately. The flattened area on the skin where the lesion was, will crust over like a scratch or little scab then fall off within days to a week. Each persons skin varies, some heal faster than others and a younger skin is generally going to heal faster than a maturer skin. Some lesions may take two-three weeks to properly heal, depending on the area and lesion removed. Good health, fresh air, exercise and hydration all aid healing.
Most patients experience very little discomfort during these lesion removal procedures. We remove plenty and most are very fast to go, not requiring any anaesthetic. We will consult and advise if pre-numbing may be required for larger lesion removal.
We can safely remove most benign growths like skin tags, age spots, sun spots, cherry angiomas(red blood spots common on torsos), scrotum angiokeratomas, seborrheic keratoses, red veins and capillaries common on noses, cheeks and chins. Some lesions will require a second opinion first. If there is any doubt, we don't take it out, we will refer you to your G.P or skin check specialist for a clearance certificate before we begin.
By electrocoagulation using radio frequency and high-frequency energy to dehydrate and cauterise the tissue, causing it to fall off during the treatment.
